A Letter in the Hand is Worth Two in the Email
Today, I am writing from a friend's computer because I made a horrible mistake. I bought a little cheapo laptop charger that has proved defective and left me with a lifeless laptop battery, thus leaving me with no ability to update my blog and scout the world wide web. I feel like a mother bear who has lost her baby cub, like a little girl who loses her favorite Barbie doll, like a doctor who learns he can no longer receive kickbacks. I'm that bummed. I think I may have forgotten how to write by hand. Pathetic, isn't it? What's it called again, penmanship?? Yeah, something like that.
Despite having to wait, for what feels like light years, to receive a new charger, I was smothered with happiness when I reunited yesterday with my cousin, Marisa, whom I haven't seen in over eight years. The ludicrous thing is during all those years, we only lived a mere hour away from each other. We were either too busy with work, school, or relationships more often than not and neglected to find time for each other. You always make less of an effort with family and friends who live near to you because you think you could see them anytime, but sometimes days turn into weeks, weeks turn into months, months turn into years, and you're in my shoes wondering why in the hell you let eight years fly by without maintaining some likeness of a relationship. Since my cousin and I are social butterflies with contagious laughter, we were able to pick right up where we left off. Her and I are so much alike its sickening. We spent hours eating, laughing, and talking till the sun set in the bay. Although we were able to renew our bond relatively quick, that is not always the matter. It isn't smart to let time lapse for so long between family and friends. If this person is important to you, show it. If you love this person, tell them, and often. If you're thinking of them, drop them a line, even better if it's handwritten. Don't let a brain dead laptop battery be the cause of your snail mail, do it because you know a letter in the hand is worth two in the email.
