What goes around comes back around
It seems like only yesterday I was rockin' the stonewash jeans and hyper-color t-shirts while attemping to create a work of art with my bangs. Oh, and let's not forget the sideways pony tail with the ginormous scrunchy. Those were the good ole' days that I still miss. I loved the 80s. Well, not all of it. I could have easily passed on the neon spandex pants, Boy George, and the slap bracelets. (Those slap bracelets were dangerous! I nearly poked my eye out a time or two!)
Nevertheless, my least favorite reminder of the late 80s has made a significant debut in Madrid. I will give you a couple clues. Toolegittoquit. Dookie Booty. Tool. You got it???
MC HAMMER PANTS!!!! WTF??? I thought those would NEVER make it back around, but apparently in Madrid they have. I don't understand why anyone would want to wear them. The pants look very unflattering on anyone who wears them, not to mention, the fact the person looks like they crapped their pants and the excrement is swimming around attempting to escape. Don´t worry MC Hammer, I WON'T ¨touch this.¨
Whoever is making these absurd pants needs to hide themselves in a deep dark abyss under the sea and never return. On the other hand, there are many other styles here that I love and would like to see more in the United States.
The first is wearing skirts and shorts all year around. Those who know me are aware I have quite a collection of skirts and dresses and that it is rare to see me wearing jeans, especially when I don't have to. Wellllll......in Madrid, they wear skirts, booty shorts, capris, you name it, even when it is raining. They just throw on some thick funky colored or patterned tights and then all is good! Had I known this piece of information I would probably have packed only one pair of jeans and then a boatload of my skirts and dresses. I am sure I would have saved a chunk on my luggage fees too!
The other trend here is wearing unique styles of boots. Tall, knee-high, sequined, spiky, purple, brown, pointy, boxy, thigh high, riding boots. There are so many fun ones to choose from. Sadly, it is impossible to find my shoe size in anything!! These española's have some very small feet! I am an Amazon in my height of 5'9 and a beast in my shoe size of 9. Albeit, one might say it is a blessing in disguise because I probably would have thwarted my budget by buying three or four different pairs by now!
Fashion is always coming and going. Leaving the scene, at times, without so much as a goodbye. I would like to be the first to extend not only a farewell to the godforsaken ¨poopy pants,¨ but also a few parting gifts. Paper Bag. Matches. Garbage Can.
